| Multicultural Issues in D.V. (I) |

In the first part of a two part session, participants will increase their knowledge of issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, and domestic abuse. Other session objectives include:
- Factors that affect investigating, intervening, interviewing.
- Socioeconomic Issues as they relate to class.
- Issues related to sexual orientation.
- Domestic abuse in same sex/lesbian/gay/transgender relationships.

| Multicultural Issues in D.V. (II) |

In the second part of a two part series on multicultural issues in domestic violence, participants will increase their knowledge of issues as they relate to migration including reasons for migration. Other session learning objectives include:
- Advocacy with undocumented clients.
- Immigrant Victims of Domestic Abuse: factors, how it effects investigating, intervening, interviewing, as well as how to provide on-going work with the family. Signs and types of abuse unique to this population.
- Issues related to faith.
- Issues related to region: urban versus rural.
- Similarities in terms of service needs.
- Differences in terms of resource availability.

| The Cost of Caring, Supervision, and the Compassionate Work Environment |

In this session, participants will increase their knowledge of the definition and contributing factors regarding the various types of trauma suffered by those at the forefront of domestic violence, including: Vicarious Traumatization (VT)/Secondary Trauma (ST)/Compassion Fatigue (CT). Other session learning objectives include:
- Reviewing conceptual models in the literature about these three conditions.
- Cognitive changes.
- Challenges.
- Group as a form of healing.
- Supervising staff who are working with domestic violence
- The importance of trauma informed systems.
- Interventions for organizations.

In this session, key models of ethical theory will be reviewed including decision making frameworks. This is a participatory course as application of the material will be applied to case issues raised by the participants.

| Co-occurring Disorders – How to Discern Mental Illness from Alcoholism and Others |
|
Substance abuse disorders frequently coexist with other mental illnesses. Substance abuse programs typically report that 50 to 75 percent of their clients have some type of co-occuring mental disorder, while mental health settings report that between 20 to 50 percent of their clients have co-occurring substance use disorders.
This session will acquaint the social worker with specific instruments to screen for the presence of co-occurring disorders. Participants will:
- Learn to clarify whether presenting symptoms are associated with alcohol or other drugs or mental illness.
- Review evidence-based treatment models.
- Develop concrete strategies and resources to meet the complex case management needs of clients with co-occurring disorders.

| Grandparents Raising Grandchildren |

This non-credit workshop will focus on the developmental needs to grandparents as well as grandchildren and how to facilitate services to negotiate the various life circumstances.
This workshop is intended for grandparents raising grandchildren, professionals who provide services, and social workers seeking to obtain CEU's. |

Clinical Supervision: Theory and Practice

Following a brief review of theories that underpin the practice of clinical supervision, the instructor will use a developmental approach to conceptualize the supervision experience. The unique dynamics, skills, and challenges of the beginning, middle, and the ending stages of supervision will be examined. Special emphasis wil lbe placed on essential factors necessary for the development of the working alliance between the supervisor and the supervisee.
