This two day event is designed to provide a school mental health practitioner in 2014 a way to better understand data, since many are likely awash in it. You may want to know how to better collect it and use what your administrators are requiring, and your school's parents are using to make decisions about what they think is best for their child. Please plan on bringing any data you have to share and work on!
Despite the general consensus that we need to become more data-driven in our work in schools, some questions remain.
- What data "really counts" for school mental health practitioners?
- How can we learn to use data to improve our practice, rather than just feel like we're filling out even more paperwork?
- [Most importantly] How can we marshal data to show that what we do makes a difference to the key stakeholders that are deciding whether school mental health services are essential for their school district?
This 2-day FSPP Summer Institute will present examples of how school mental health practitioners like you are using data to make a difference. We also invite you to give us some of your own professional experiences, as we seek to build on the findings from our 2014 2nd National School Social Work Survey. The mornings will be spent presenting material and the afternoons with small group discussions, providing key findings from the survey related to data-driven decision making and how this applies to you at your school.
