9:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. Social Emotional Learning: Evidence-Based Programs for your School
Presenter: Ruth Cross, MA, Illinois Training Specialist for CASEL
This interactive presentation will enable participants to understand how to embed the SEL standards in the school setting by integrating the standards with other initiatives and evidence based programs. It will also help participants review and analyze data in order to facilitate appropriate learning environments.
1:00 p.m-4:00 p.m. Integrating Brain-Based Therapy in your School Practice
Presenter: Freddi (Freda) Friedman, Ph.D., LCSW, RN
Dr. Friedman will address current research on trauma, attachment disorders and emotion dysregulation as well as neurobiology. She will emphasize the clinical application of this research through teaching strategies and techniques to utilize in working with school populations. Her workshop will include didactic and experiential learning, case discussions and mindfulness strategies.

9:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. Treating and Preventing Suicidal Behavior
Presenter: Peggy Kubert, A.M., LCSW, Erika's Lighthouse
Depression education is the first step in ending suffering and preventing suicide. This multi-media presentation will focus on the issues of adolescent depression and suicide prevention. Practical resource material and strategies for early identification and intervention of teen depression and suicide assessment materials will be highlighted.
Topics covered include: Signs of depression/suicide in teens; Strategies to destigmatize depression and recognize it as a common and treatable illness; the importance of the school in early identification of students at risk for suicide; and school protocols for at risk students.
1:00 p.m-4:00 p.m. Working with Students around Substance Use/Abuse
Presenter: Linda Lewaniak, L.C.S.W., C.A.D.C., Alexian Brothers
This workshop is designed to identify risk factors and current trends for adolescent substance abuse, and to present school interventions that have proven to be effective to help in identifying teens at risk and treatment options. The workshop will also include issues of confidentiality and school policy in regard to disclosure of teen substance abuse.

9:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. Effective Interventions for Kids Diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum
Presenter: Theresa Richter; M.H.S., CCC-S/L
This workshop presents a meaningful approach to skill development based on knowledge and understanding of ASD issues. Participants will develop a repertoire of best practice; including evidence based strategies and how to select strategies based on the needs of the individual student and their unique profile. Participants will learn to facilitate social skill development through the application of meaningful activities and support in collaboration with their problem solving team.
1:00 p.m-4:00 p.m. Working from Strengths Based Perspective, with Students Diagnosed with ADHD
Presenter: Jonathan Carroll, MA
Jonathan Carroll will share his expertise on ADHD and Executive Functioning concerns and offer strategies that help reduce impulsivity both in the classroom and other school areas and improve behavior during unstructured times and activities. Participants will learn to create positive rewards in the classroom and communicate effective strategies/techniques with parents on improving homework completion. Improving clients’ understanding of his/her ADHD and how it impacts relationships with adults and peers will also be covered.
NOTE: Each day from 12:00 to 1:00pm is LUNCH ON YOUR OWN. A list of nearby restaurants will be available.
