Michael Agliardo is from Mamaroneck, New York. He did his undergraduate studies in history at Harvard. After college, he entered the
Society of Jesus, and as a Jesuit he studied philosophy at Fordham University and theology at the Weston Jesuit School of Theology
(now a part of Boston College). He received his doctorate in sociology from the University of California, San Diego.

Fr. Agliardo’s doctoral research focused on religion, pluralism, environmental issues, and public life. He recently completed a study of
environmental activism among American Catholic women religious funded by the Association for the Sociology of Religion.

Fr. Agliardo is an associate editor of Encyclopedia of Sciences and Religions, to be published by Springer in fall of 2012.

He is a member of the coordinating committee of the American Sociological Association's Section on Environment and Technology.

Fr. Agliardo also has an area focus on China. He has taught sociology at the Chinese National Seminary in Beijing. As a board
member of the US Catholic China Bureau, he is helping to organize a conference on religion in China tentatively slated for fall of 2013.
