Shared Governance
The shared governance system at Loyola is composed of seven University Policy Committees (UPCs): Academic Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Student Affairs, Staff Affairs, Strategic Planning, Budgeting and Finance, and Research. The operations of each UPC are supervised by the University Coordinating Committee (UCC). The UPCs function as a locus for dialogue in collaborative policy formation prior to approval by the President, and also review matters or issues as assigned by the UCC, or that fall within its purview as described in the charter, in order to make recommendations to the appropriate administrator on such matters or issues. These UPCs meet as often as needed but at least twice per semester during the regular academic year. More information about the UPCs and shared governance system can be found at www.luc.edu/governance/ .
All Faculty, staff and student members will be selected by their elected representative bodies and councils (Faculty Council, Staff Council and Unified Student Government) for all seats on the UPCs. Staff posts are staggered 3 year appointments, with some terms ending each year in June. Staff Council (SC) will coordinate elections and review nominees for open UPC staff posts. As much as possible, SSOM and LUMC staff posts will be filled by a Maywood employee. Membership on SC is not a requirement, nor an exclusion, for service on a UPC.
