Catholic College Students:  Building a World of Hope and a Community for Peace

Loyola University Chicago will be sending two undergraduate students to the third annual symposium for college students entitled:  Catholic College Students:  Building a World of Hope and a Community for Peace, Sunday, May 18 – Friday, May 23, 2008. The seminar will be in New York City at the Holy See Mission and the United Nations and the participants will be housed at the Cardinal Spellman Retreat House, Riverdale, New York.  Lodging, meals and airfare will be paid by Loyola University Chicago. The purpose of the symposium is to engage faith-filled college students in the work of creating a more just world.

Loyola faculty, staff and students are invited to nominate students to attend the symposium.  Self-nominations will be accepted.  Nominees will be asked to complete an application.  Applications will be screened, in addition to possible interviews, to select Loyola’s representatives.

Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network National Conference

Loyola University Chicago is hoping to provide full scholarships for up to five individuals to attend the Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network National Conference, “Engaging Students in Humanitarian Action,” Fordham University, New York, New York, Friday, June 20 – Sunday, June 22, 2008.

Applications to attend the conference will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Early applications are strongly encouraged.  First preference will be given to current sophomore and junior undergraduate students, but current seniors will be accepted if others do not apply.  All applications must be submitted by Tuesday, May 6, 2008.

National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference

Applications are now being accepted for the 2008 National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference, “Love, Justice, Community,” Seattle University, Seattle, WA, July 30 – August 3, 2008. The 12th Annual National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference (NJSLC) is an opportunity for students to build community within the Jesuit network, share ideas for success and deepen their understanding of leadership. Workshops will be organized into five tracks which address the needs of each leadership function area:

  • Governance [student government and other governing groups]
  • Programming [program board members, clubs and other programmers]
  • Community Living [residence life and Greek organizations]
  • Service & Spirituality [campus ministry and volunteer service leaders]
  • Cultural Diversity [multicultural affairs leaders and advocates of diversity]

Attendance will be limited to students who will have completed at least one year at Loyola by July 31 and who will be remaining at least one additional undergraduate year. Preference will be given to students who will be remaining two or more years at Loyola.  All conferences expenses will be paid.
