The City of Heredia and Costa Rica - Heredia is a colonial city 80,000 in the foothills above San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. In fact, Heredia is only 10 miles or 25 minutes by bus from downtown San Jose. The National University, where USAC students take their courses is only a few blocks from downtown Heredia. The city is surrounded by coffee plantations and ranches. It is one of the gateways to the majestic Poas volcano. The climate is temperate, with average temperatures of 70-80 degrees year round. Costa Rica is well known for its peaceful lifestyle, egalitarian society, stable government, excellent medical care and extraordinary natural beauty. The geography of Costa Rica displays a stunning panorama of nature, which includes the Caribean and Pacific Ocean Coasts, mountains that soar to 12,00 feet, lush rainforests, and smoking volcanoes.
