    Types of Accommodation

Student Apartments - These apartments are a short walk from the university and offer students an independent setting appropriate for the typical upper class student. Most students in these complexes are international, and College Square provides students an independent setting appropriate for the typical upper class student. Students are responsible for their own meals, which they can cook in kitchenettes in their apartments, or in larger kitchens in the community living area. Communal lounge areas and rooftop barbecue areas provide excellent facilities for entertaining friends. There is also a gym and heated pool on site.

Homestays - Hoemstays are arranged for IES Melbourne students through the Australian Centre and are generally with young professionals. Housing placements are extensive enough to meet a wide range of student requests. Students have private rooms and have the option of various meal plans at the home-stay. Student in home-stays can have up to a 30-minute commute, but the opportunity to get to know the "real" Melbourne and live with Australians is well worth it.

Residential Colleges - Residential college accommodation offers students a furnished single room, three meals a day, and shared bathroom facilities. The colleges are situated within a 15-minute walk from the University of Melbourne's main campus in one of the nicest areas in the city. The colleges are set up as academic communities with principals and senior staff who oversee the community environment, in which all residents are expected to participate. Residential colleges offer a great chance to integrate into local student life. They are communities, which take an active interest in the welfare of their students.

Independent Housing - This option is available to those students interested in finding their own apartments or houses. Rent, utilities, furniture, rental, meals, deposits, and all contractual arrangements are the responsibility of the individual students. Students choosing independent housing will receive a full room and board refund from IES, as long as they notify the IES Chicago office no later than the deadline listed on the Independent Housing Form for their program.
