Information for Prospective Study Abroad Students

Congratulations on your decision to consider studying abroad as part of your undergraduate education at Loyola! Study abroad provides the opportunity to explore a different part of the world and experience a new culture first hand, while earning Loyola credit. The following steps and tips should help you to get started with the process.

1) Attend an Information Session

These sessions cover basic introductory study abroad information.

Study Abroad 101 Workshops are offered twice a week throughout the semester on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00pm-4:30pm in Sullivan 216. They are mandatory for all students except those who are planning to attend the Rome Center. The Study Abroad Manual will be covered in detail at the workshop.

There are Rome Center information sessions available all throughout the year as well.

Visit the Schedule of Information Sessions and Upcoming Events for complete details.

2) Consider various factors when researching and choosing a study abroad program. Follow the  guideline sheet on choosing a program.

3) Make sure that you meet Loyola's eligibility requirements for study abroad. Also, keep in mind that there might be program specific requirements as well. If you're curious about a particular program, you can email studyabroad@luc.edu or check the program web page.

4) Apply for a passport if you do not already have one. Check the expiration date if you do have one to make sure that it is valid for at least three months after the end of the study abroad program you are considering. If you need to apply or renew, refer to the passports page to find out where you can go to do this.

5) Meet with a study abroad advisor to talk about your programs of interests and any other questions or concerns. You can schedule an appointment or come in during walk-in advising hours. To find out more visit study abroad advising.

6) Contact a returned study abroad student or an International Student. The Office for International Programs has a list of students who have agreed to act as contacts and have provided their emails and program details.

7) Check on the deadline for your program/s of interest.

8) Begin to work on your study abroad application. Follow the application process outline.

9) Once you have submitted an application and have been accepted, refer to the Admitted Students page.
