Research Interests

The major research direction in my laboratory involves taxonomic and systematic studies of weevils (Coleoptera:Curculionoidea: Rhynchitidae and Attelabidae). Many species in these groups from Central and South America still remain undescribed. Generic revisions including names and descriptions of new species, redescriptions of known species, species distribution maps and species associated biological data are in various stages of development. Attelabid and rhynchitid specimens from major United States collections have been assembled in his lab. Field trips to Central and South America are necessary for the acquisition of additional specimens and biological data. His laboratory is also interested in weevil life cycles. The vast majority of insects (including weevils) are known only from the adult stage with life cycles and immature stages completely unknown. The discovery and description of weevil larvae and larval habitat has been and will continue to be an important endeavor in his lab.
