Transit buses and LSC Shuttle Stop Change
On Monday, August 25, when Loyola’s shuttle service kicks off for the year, riders will be introduced to the University’s new environmentally friendly bus fleet, along with a brand new shuttle stop located on the south end of the existing Halas Field, on the Lake Shore Campus.
Below, please find an overview of both.
New Shuttles
With a new look and feel, Loyola’s new shuttles closely resemble the commuter style buses used by Northwestern University to transport its students. They also boast a number of new features not available in past Loyola shuttles. Some highlights of the buses include:
Environmentally Friendly – Loyola’s new shuttles, manufactured in California, a state known for its commitment to stringent auto emissions laws, will produce far lower emissions levels than the buses used on campus in past years. When compared with buses used in previous years, Loyola’s new shuttles will emit 9.3 percent less CO (carbon monoxide), 13.6 percent less NOx (Nitrogen Oxide), 42.8 percent less PM (particulate matter), and 58.3 percent less Hydrocarbon into the air.
Carry More Students – Buses now have the ability to transport nearly 70 students, which is approximately 16 more than in previous years.
Bike Racks – Each bus is capable of carrying two bikes on its front end.
Handicap Accessible – New shuttles feature a hydraulic lift system that allows passengers in wheelchairs to board, and also features fold-up, wheelchair-accessible seats.
New Bus Stop
Loyola’s newest bus stop, located on the south end of Halas Field, allows three shuttle buses to park and load students immediately, rather than lining up along the campus drive by Damen Hall and forcing students to stand in long lines. The launch of this new 24-foot bus shelter, which is similar to the JCDecaux models seen around Chicago, means the previous bus stop within the main parking structure will no longer be used.
