Joe Pixler serves as director of Communications for the Health Sciences Division (HSD). The HSD, based in Maywood, Ill., comprises Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Stritch School of Medicine, Graduate School, Center for Simulation Education, Center for Translational Research and Education (opening in 2016), Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics, and other interprofessional health sciences institutes and centers on the Health Sciences Campus (HSC).
Joe leads the HSD communications team in presenting initiatives of its various entities, as well as the Advancement & Alumni Relations department, via all channels to internal and external audiences. He works in collaboration with the communications departments of Loyola University Chicago and its partner on the HSC, Loyola University Health System.
Joe has a journalism degree from Ohio University. Before joining LUC, he held managerial positions at the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune Interactive (metromix.com), and the American Hospital Association.
He shares the University's deep interest in mission, having led work trips to Mexico, Cuba, and New Orleans and participated in trips to Northern Ireland, Guatemala, Honduras, and the Rosebud and Pine Ridge Indian Reservations.
