Core Curriculum

Your college education needs a solid foundation

At Loyola, the cornerstone of your learning is the required Core Curriculum. It helps you get out of your academic comfort zone, try something unexpected, and prepare for your major.

The Core Curriculum

The Core Curriculum reinforces the development of six crucial skills:

  • Communication
  • Critical thinking
  • Ethical awareness and decision-making
  • Information literacy
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis and research methods
  • Technological literacy

These courses help build the values of justice, faith, and diversity central to Loyola’s Jesuit education. A well-rounded liberal arts education prepares you to give back to your community, promote global justice, and make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

The program reflects our changing world. Beginning in fall 2017, additional classes in the Core Curriculum will focus on the perspective of non-majority populations and look through the lens of gender identity, race, and religion.
