Get help navigating the move-in process and your first week of classes with these important tips and resources.
Prepare for Move-in 2008
All resident students receive a specific move-in date and time in a summer mailing from the Department of Residence Life. Early arrivals cannot be accommodated, so make sure you arrive on time. To get more information about move-in dates and times, a first-year student packing checklist, and more, visit the Residence Life Web site. You can also access campus maps and directions online.
Check Your E-mail
Loyola uses e-mail as an official method of communication, and you are strongly advised to check your Loyola e-mail daily. Important announcements, alerts, and other information will occasionally be sent to your e-mail account. Loyola Focus, a student e-newsletter, is sent to your Loyola e-mail account on Fridays during the regular academic year.
Pick Up Your Books
Loyola bookstores are located at the Lake Shore and Water Tower Campuses. To preorder your books and get more information about bookstore hours and services, visit the bookstore online. During the Fall and Spring Semesters, you can add Rambler Bucks to your Campus Card to use in the University bookstores by submitting a Charge Authorization Form.
Get Your Campus Card
Your Campus Card is your key to many services offered by the University, including the campus shuttle, Halas Sports Center, libraries, parking lots (if you have secured a parking permit), dining halls, and more. You can also use your Campus Card as a pre-paid debit card (see Rambler Bucks). The Campus Card Office is offering extended hours for the beginning of Fall Semester to assist with replacement cards or to troubleshoot any problems with existing cards.

Apply for Tuition Insurance
Loyola has partnered with A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., to offer tuition insurance to you and your family to supplement the University's refund policy. This private insurance program provides a refund of up to 75% of the cost of tuition, fees, and room and board if a withdrawal occurs due to accident or illness after the start of the semester. The application deadline for tuition insurance is August 24. Get more information on the Dewar Web site, or call 617.774.1555.
Sign Up for a Direct Deposit REFUND
Financial aid refunds will begin processing shortly. The fastest way to get your refund is to sign up for direct deposit in LOCUS. You can create a Refund Direct Deposit Profile in the "Campus Finances" area of LOCUS.
Set Up Parent/Guest Access to LOCUS
Give your parents or guardians access to your LOCUS account. This is important for parents who are involved in the financial aid process, payment plans, or paying student accounts. To set up parent/guest access to LOCUS, which provides users with unique usernames and passwords, go to the "Personal Portfolio" section in LOCUS.
Review Key Academic Dates
Check out the Fall Semester Academic Calendar for information on late and change registration, withdrawals, University holidays, final examinations, and more.
Pick up Your U-Pass
If you are a full-time student, take advantage of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) U-Pass, which offers unlimited use of CTA buses and trains. No cash is needed. The U-Pass fee is only $88 per semester, and the cost is included in your student fees. During the Fall Semester, the U-Pass is valid from the first day of classes until the last day of final exams. To learn more, and to get the distribution schedule, visit the U-Pass Web site.
Take the Shuttle or 8-Ride Service
Campus shuttle service will begin operation for the 2008 - 2009 academic year on August 25. The shuttle operates Monday - Friday (while classes are in session), beginning with a 7 a.m. pick-up from the Water Tower Campus and a 7:30 a.m. pick-up from the Lake Shore Campus. Final shuttles will depart from both campuses at midnight. In addition to the shuttle buses, Loyola also offers 8-Ride service, which begins August 20 at 6:30 p.m. 8-Ride operates from 6:30 p.m. - 2:15 a.m., seven days a week, during the regular academic year while classes are in session. For complete back-to-school updates, as well as information on the new shuttle busses and bus shelters, visit the Transportation Services Web site.
Get Your Parking Permit
If you’re a commuter student, you may apply for a parking permit. Resident parking on campus is very limited and priority is given to upper-classmen. Only students who live in on-campus residence halls may enter the resident permit lottery. For more information about parking at Loyola, call 773.508.7036, e-mail lscparkingservices@luc.edu, or visit the Parking Services Web site.
Build Upon Your Faith

Loyola is a home for all faiths, and we encourage you to take advantage of multiple opportunities for prayer, worship, and community interaction. To learn more, visit the University Ministry Web site.
Learn About Career, Internship, and Service Opportunities
The Career Development Center offers a full range of career services to assist you with choosing your major, searching for internships and jobs, making your career choice, and planning for post-graduation. For more information, visit the Campus Recreation Web site.
Waive out of Student Health Insurance
All undergraduate students enrolled for 12 or more credit hours at the start of the Fall Semester are required to have individual health insurance. Full-time students will be automatically enrolled in Loyola's health care plan and charged $1,515 for coverage from August 1 - July 31. If you have your own insurance or are covered under your parents' plan, you may waive out of Loyola's insurance plan by providing proof of coverage. Log into LOCUS and click on "Student Health Insurance" in the Finance section. You must submit the electronic waiver by October 1 to avoid unwanted charges on your bill. Waviers accepted after the deadline will not be accepted. For more information, visit the Bursar Web site.
CHECK OUT Health Services on Campus
Visit the Wellness Center, which provides primary care, preventive services, and wellness programming specifically designed for Loyola students.
