NEW STUDENT CONVOCATION

MANDATORY FOR NEW STUDENTS

The New Student Convocation is an annual tradition when all entering students are inducted into their graduating class, and their academic careers officially begin at Loyola University Chicago. Students are welcomed to the University community by the president, provost, vice president of Student Development, faculty, and staff. More information about Convocation is available here.

Institute of Environmental Sustainability (IES) Tours
10:00 a.m.
Meet in the IES Lobby

The IES is an innovative, interactive, and adaptable sustainable living and learning environment.  It provides both a prototype and demonstration of opportunities for students to get hands-on innovative experience. Tour highlights include the Ecodome (greenhouse), Clean Energy Lab, Aquaponics, and “Loyola Students Make Change Through Action”. Tours are led by student sustainability leaders and staff.

First-Year Residence Hall Community Meetings

Individuals’ residence halls

All students who live on campus are required to meet with their residence hall staff for a mandatory community meeting. Look for signs or speak with a staff member from your building for your specific meeting location.

 First-Year Commuter Student Session

Crown Center Auditorium

Get connected to Loyola! An Off-Campus Student Life panel will provide you with an opportunity to speak with our staff, gain insight into campus resources, and get to know your fellow commuter students! This session will provide you with resources for becoming a part of the community. After the meeting, we'll join the Class of 2018 for the Convocation Walk!

New Student Convocation

MANDATORY FOR NEW STUDENTS

Join all new students in Loyola's annual Convocation Walk, the procession led by your Student Body President, Flavio Bravo. The route will take you through Cudahy's ceremonial South Green Doors and end at the New Student Convocation. The New Student Convocation is an annual tradition when all entering students are inducted into their graduating class, and their academic careers officially begin at Loyola University Chicago. Students are welcomed to the University community by the president, provost, vice president of Student Development, faculty, and staff.

MANDATORY FOR NEW STUDENTS

Engage in small group discussions on the First-Year Text text, Tattoos on the Heart, facilitated by Loyola's faculty members. In addition to the book discussion, take advantage of your time with faculty to talk about the transition to Loyola. Sponsored by Academic Affairs. (Dinner will be provided).

Meet Damen: 8pm-10pm
Damen Student Center

Introduce yourself to some of the newest additions to the Loyola Lake Shore Campus. The Arnold J. Damen, S.J. Student Center and Halas Recreation Center look forward to becoming some of your new "homes" on campus! Join us for activities, music, games, prizes, movie screenings in the Damen Cinema (8pm & 11pm), food and more! Co-hosted by ((dop)), the Department of Student Centers, and Campus Recreation.

Sex Signals
8 p.m.–9:30 p.m. 

Mundelein Auditorium, Mundelein Center

Blending a unique combination of improvisational comedy, education, and audience participation, Sex Signals provides a provocative look at the issues of dating and sex on college campuses. The show uses humor throughout to laugh about the differences between men and women and engage audiences in candid discussions about how we treat one another. Sponsored by the Wellness Center and Student Activities & Greek Affairs.

Trip to Target
11 p.m.–1 a.m.
Meet just outside of the parking structure

Take a trip to Target for anything you need or may have forgotten at home. Target has extended its hours exclusively for Loyola students! Buses will depart for LUC beginning at 11 p.m., and the final bus will depart from Target at midnight to return students back to campus. PLEASE PURCHASE ONLY WHAT YOU CAN FIT ON YOUR LAP ON THE BUS!
