HIV and STI Testing Terminology HIV: Human Immunodeficiency Virus STI: Sexually Transmitted Infection – HIV, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, or other infections. Confidential: Testing in which personal information is collected but is kept confidential. Testing could be noted in a person’s medical record. Anonymous: Testing in which no personal information is collected. Participants receive a number with which to collect their results. OraSure: HIV test done by oral cotton swab and sent to a lab to be processed. Results are available in 1 – 2 weeks. OraQuick: Rapid HIV test done by oral cotton swab or through a small blood sample. Results are available in 1 hour.
