further campus suicide prevention
online depression screenings
The Wellness Center provides an Online Mental Health Screening for Depression. This allows students to participate anonymously in an online assessment, is available year-round to the whole student body, and provides immediate feedback and information on campus resources. Visit the Mental Health Tools page and select "Screening for Mental Health Online."
suicide awareness week
Every year the Wellness Center collaborates with students on campus in sponsoring Suicide Awareness Week. During this time, various activities, information, and functions are held in efforts to raise awareness about suicide and depression. Check back for the dates of this year's event.
Outreach and Education
The Wellness Center provides prevention education and outreach to the entire Loyola community on suicide, depression, and other relevant mental health topics. If you are interested in learning more about these topics as a student, RA, faculty or staff member, or student group member, please call the Wellness Center at 773.508.2530.
Since students will rarely seek out help from a professional unless it is someone they feel they can trust, people who have regular, direct contact with students should be educated on identifying risk factors and be knowledgeable about making a referral. The Wellness Center offers presentations designed specifically to assist people in such roles through programs such as "Recognizing and Responding to a Distressed Student" for faculty and staff, or the Gatekeeper Training program for anyone who would like to know how to respond to someone in distress. For more information on the Distressed Student program or to request a presentation, please contact Mona Dugo, LCSW at 773.508.2752 or David deBoer, PhD at 773.508.2546. For more information on the Gatekeeper Training program, please contact Emily Knotek, PsyD, Suicide Prevention Coordinator, at 773.508.2749.
