Screen/Play

Screen/Play is a regular column by Digest magazine's second editor, Brandie Rae Madrid.  This was her first contribution to the magazine when she began to help editor J. Curtis Main with the magazine. Although she tends to write the column each week, it is available at any time for guest writers to contribute a review of or response to any film from a feminist and/or social justice perspective. The intent of the column is to highlight films that inspire or challenge us, and is also open to heavier critiques of film as well as responses to the film industry in general. 

Brandie is obtaining her B.A. in WSGS and English Literature at Loyola University Chicago and has worked at a local, independent video store for over eight years.  Her interests include exploring how film is and can be used as a tool for awareness and social change.  Brandie hopes to one day teach in higher education in women's and gender studies, in addition to doing research and community work and activism.
