Office of the Provost

Interfolio Platform for Review, Promotion, and Tenure

January 22, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the Office of the Provost (Faculty Affairs) and the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) are collaborating to adopt Interfolio’s Review, Promotion, and Tenure module to create a unified and seamless process to support Loyola University Chicago faculty in all disciplines. As we implement the platform this spring, faculty and administrators across all campuses and units at Loyola will have access to a single, streamlined platform for managing the review, promotion, and tenure process.

This is an exciting change that will lead to greater transparency, equity, and ease in the faculty review process. Implementation of the Interfolio Review, Promotions, and Tenure module is part of our ambition to become One Loyola by strengthening systems and best practices across the many specialties and academic cultures that comprise our University. The system will help address long-standing inconsistencies and manual processes in the review, promotion, and tenure process.

With the Interfolio platform, faculty will be able to receive clear instructions on promotion and tenure processes and have access to an easy tool to assemble, label, arrange, and submit their formal packet. The system helps keep the review process professional and standardized, and ensures that all faculty members have an equitable means to present themselves. Faculty committees will be able to review applicant materials, solicit external and internal letters of review and recommendation, share candidate materials with the appropriate University administrators, and vote on promotion and tenure decisions–all within a single platform. Interfolio technology will help in assessing our progress in faculty equity and diversity.

Our colleagues in ITS, along with partners from Interfolio, will begin the set-up, template construction, and data integration in early spring 2021, and we plan to be ready to launch the new system on April 1, 2021. In the interim, Faculty Affairs will arrange training sessions on the system and continue to share relevant communications to academic units. Over the next few months, you will receive relevant updates and information about the Interfolio platform and the implementation process.
