February 12, 2021

Dear Loyola Community,

I am pleased to announce that Lester Manzano, who has been serving as associate dean of students in the Division of Student Development, has joined the Office of the Provost as assistant vice provost for student success.
Dr. Manzano brings over 20 years of higher education and student affairs administrative experience to his new role. Since arriving at Loyola in 2005, Dr. Manzano has served in a variety of academic and student affairs positions, most recently as associate dean of students. Prior to that, he served as assistant dean for student academic affairs, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS); assistant dean for Water Tower Campus academic programs, CAS; and academic advisor. He has also held student affairs administrative positions at Lake Forest College and Colgate University.

Dr. Manzano holds a doctorate in higher education from Loyola University Chicago, a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs administration from the University of Vermont, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.

As assistant vice provost for student success, Dr. Manzano brings considerable expertise and a deep understanding of Loyola’s students to our ongoing strategies to enhance the student experience. He will oversee the departments that comprise Student Academic Services, including: Achieving College Excellence (TRIO Student Support Services); First and Second Year Advising; Learning and Student Success, the Student Accessibility Center, and the Tutoring Center; New Student Programs: First-Year Experience and Special Populations Programs; and Student-Athlete Academic Services.

We are grateful to Patrick Green, executive director of the Center for Experiential Learning and clinical assistant professor in the School of Education, for his service as interim assistant provost for student success from fall 2019 through fall 2020. During this period, Dr. Green helped launch a University-wide student success technology platform and advanced other key initiatives for student success and community engagement.

Please join me in welcoming Lester Manzano to this important role in the Office of the Provost.

Together in Loyola,

Norberto Grzywacz, PhD
Provost and Chief Academic Officer
