Sheila McMullan Appointed Executive Vice Provost

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sheila McMullan as Executive Vice Provost, effective July 1.

Sheila is a higher education leader who brings to Loyola great expertise and a deep understanding of the Jesuit educational mission. She has a wide range of experience serving faculty and students in strategic planning. Sheila has worked on collaboration in program development within and across disciplines, and in creation and administration of international programs. Moreover, she has developed systems to measure and monitor operational and educational success.

In her new role, Sheila will be responsible for the daily coordination of the Office of the Provost. She will also support deans and their staff. They will collaborate on planning, operations, and finances of their academic units and their relationship with the Office of the Provost. In addition, Sheila will be a member of leadership units of the University such as the President's Cabinet, the Strategic Financial Planning Team, and the Council of Deans.

Sheila comes to us from Georgetown University, where she served in several leadership roles over the past two decades. Most recently, she was vice dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In that role, she oversaw the operations of the school, finance and budgeting, admissions, financial aid, program development, and student services. She was responsible for the implementation and direction of strategic goals, including the development of new national and international programs. She worked directly with students on Title IX issues, and student engagement and governance. She possesses a deep awareness of the unique needs of undergraduate and graduate students.

She was associate dean for finance and administration in the school from 2002-2015. In that capacity, she developed an innovative tracking system for faculty funding proposals and new metrics for evaluating graduate programs. She also served as the senior business manager at the School. Beforehand, she was director of finance and administration at the MBNA Career Education Center of Georgetown University.

Sheila holds a JD from Georgetown Law, with focuses on mediation, negotiation, and higher education law. She also has a master’s of liberal studies with a concentration in public policy from Georgetown. A native of New Mexico, she earned a bachelor’s degree in both political science and theater arts from New Mexico State University. She is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools. Furthermore, she is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers. Finally, she is a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar.
