SCPS Ties with Community Colleges Now Even Stronger

SCPS, as well as Loyola’s Adult and Transfer Center, has had extensive relationships with local community colleges for many years. LUC staff members attend fairs, meet with prospective students, and explain our programs to students from Chicagoland’s community colleges. SCPS has always been very inclusive, and accepts transfer credit earned from community colleges and regionally accredited universities for University Core courses.

In the last year, SCPS has taken steps to deepen its relationships with community colleges by creating transfer guides that cater to each specific school. These guides aim to direct community college students to the best way they can apply their course credit toward completing their B.A. at Loyola as efficiently and effectively as possible. Transfer guides also allow students who have completed an A.S. or A.A. at the community college to transfer to Loyola SCPS with the core curriculum requirements met; they may then complete their bachelor’s degree in an average of two years.

Currently, SCPS has approved transfer guides in place with Oakton Community College, William Rainey Harper College, and Wilbur Wright College (City Colleges of Chicago). SCPS is working with several other community colleges to create transfer guides as well.
