Local Restaurant Spend Initiative

A simple and meaningful way for University departments to support local small businesses and restaurants is to cater locally. A list of local community restaurants/catering businesses that have the potential to support Loyola events is listed here. View the Local Restaurant Spend Initiative here.

Did you know?

A 2012 study by Civic Economics in Salt Lake City found that local restaurants recirculate an average of 79 percent of their revenue locally, compared to 30 percent for the chain eateries. What accounts for the difference? Independent businesses spend more on local labor, goods procured locally for resale, and services from local providers. This means a much larger share of the money spent at a locally owned store stays in the local economy, supporting a variety of other businesses and jobs. “Indie Impact Study Series: Salt Lake City, Utah” [PDF].
