Jonathan McGee - Baumhart Scholar

As the Deputy Director of Regional Economic Development (RED), Jonathan serves as the face of the DCEO in communities statewide. Managing a field team of 15 who cover all geographies of Illinois, he develops the strategy for regional economic development, business recruitment, local investments and partnerships. Most importantly, his team represents the State to these communities to bring programs, dollars and new ideas to help their economies grow and attract businesses and jobs.

Jonathan previously consulted for Get In Chicago and The Chicago Community Trust’s Civic Engagement team where he led social capital initiatives, and facilitated programming in Chicago’s neighborhoods most impacted by poverty and violence. He also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor, at West Virginia University, in the Reed College of Media.

Jonathan is the Founder, and CEO, of The Global Organization for Applied Political Leadership, the first and foremost training incubator for lower economic communities of color in advocacy. GOAL has partnered with the United Nations, CQ/Fiscal Note, Campaigns and Elections Magazine, The Chicago Community Trust, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, and The Chicago Urban League.

In the United States Congress, Jonathan served as a Legislative Assistant for U.S Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX 30). He also worked for the Partnership for Public service, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that seeks to revitalize the federal government by transforming the way government works and inspiring a new generation to serve.

Jonathan received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Western Illinois University, and holds a Master of Professional Studies Degree in Political Management from The George Washington University.
