Tanya Jaramilla - Baumhart Scholar
Tanya serves as the Chief Operations Officer for Urban Gateways, a nonprofit that engages young people in arts experiences to inspire creativity and impact social change. In this role, she provides operational guidance and support to fulfill the organization’s mission and strategic vision. Driven by her passion for the cause of racial equity, Tanya leads Urban Gateways’ antiracism and equity initiative as the organization deepens its resolve to be a resource for youth on their path to becoming socially engaged creative leaders.
Prior to Urban Gateways, Tanya was the Assistant Director of the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA), a community-based organization based in Humboldt Park that connects the Puerto Rican Diaspora through arts and culture programming. During her tenure, Tanya helped PRAA complete a $2.8M capital campaign and transition to its new home and gallery in Albany Park. Outside of the nonprofit sector, Tanya has had a multitude of experiences and held leading roles in corporate retail and small businesses alike. She holds a B.A. in Management and Communications from DePaul University, as well as certifications and training from National Arts Strategies, the Latino Policy Forum, and the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. In addition to her day-to-day responsibilities, Tanya also serves on the board of ASPIRA Illinois, a nationally recognized organization that cultivates youth leadership through education, and is actively involved in working to further the accessibility of quality education and arts.
