Director of Community Health, Advocate Aurora Health

Angela K. Waller, 49, is a 15-year breast cancer survivor and is dedicated to educating women of color about the importance of overall breast health and the empowerment of patient advocates. Angela currently is the director of community health for Advocate Aurora Health’s South Chicagoland region where she leads the community health needs assessment process, implementation, and programming for three hospitals, co-chairs the Food Security committee for the system’s community strategy and is a member of the system’s Corporate Inclusion Council. Angela is also vice president/chef consultant for Catering Out The Box, LLC.  Past employers have included Loretto Hospital, Susan G. Komen, the American Cancer Society, and the Healthcare Consortium of Illinois.

Angela, an activist, has provided survivorship testimony before the Chicago City Council, the Illinois General Assembly and on Capitol Hill and works with several advocacy and health centric organizations including Equal Hope, formally the Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, Sisters Network, Inc., the National Breast Cancer Coalition, Susan G. Komen and the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network.  Her advocacy expertise has been utilized by the Chicago and Illinois Departments of Public Health, the Southland Community Based Participatory Research Coalition, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Department of Defense.  She has a heart for service and currently serves as co-chair of the Austin Coming Together board of directors and is an active member of the Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Angela is frequently requested to speak about her breast cancer journey and advocacy work and has spoken throughout the Chicagoland area for community and faith-based organizations, businesses, schools and civic organizations. A culinary school graduate and foodie she loves to cook, bake, and dine out.  She resides in Chicago with her husband Anthony B. Waller, president and owner of Catering Out The Box, LLC., a full-service catering company. She received her B.S. degree in Mass Communication/Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Political Science from Jackson State University, and her M.A. degree in Communications & Training/Communication Studies from Governors State University.
