Assistant Principal of Culture and Operations, Gary Comer College Prep

Servant Leader, Educator & Creative; Ivory has over 13 years of community and education leadership experience. As a first-generation college graduate with a humble upbringing, she advocates for equity and inclusion by centering the voices and experiences of the most marginalized in her leadership, facilitation, and coaching. Ivory Duncan is the Assistant Principal of Culture & Operations at Gary Comer College Prep (GCCP), a Noble School. She provides strategic leadership in GCCP’s quest towards becoming an anti-racist educational space. Her work includes facilitating professional development workshops to educators from all backgrounds on creating classroom spaces that amplify student critical thinking and identity. In her role, she is responsible for ensuring a safe college-going culture and effective building operations. More specifically, Ivory leads a DEI committee towards developing a strategic school year plan that focuses on staff development and student joy. Additionally, she partners with parents to develop ways to reengage scholars back in in-person learning effectively.

Ivory is a lover of art and self-expression. In her spare time, she enjoys documentaries, dining, and spending time with loved ones.  Currently, she is re-vamping her consultant company, Defining Myself (formally a social media movement #definingmyself). Defining Myself’s focus is to transform the way people think of themselves, discover their identity, and explore how their identities impact their professional and personal lives.

Ivory’s identity is influenced by being a mother of a young black male and intends to help create a society in which he and young people like him can thrive.
