John Paul Salay
Liturgy and R.C.I.A. Campus Minister
Dr. John Paul Salay is Loyola University’s Coordinator of Liturgy and RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). His responsibilities include training and coordinating volunteers and student workers who participate in liturgies at Madonna della Strada Chapel. As coordinator of the RCIA, John Paul is instrumental in preparing Loyola students to receive Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. He is also editor of the chapel’s weekly e-bulletin, “The Madonna Times,” where he writes a weekly reflection on the weekly scripture readings.
With a degrees in education (BS Elementary Education) and theology (M.Div., S.T.M., and Ph.D.) John Paul has over twenty-five years of experience in pastoral ministry and higher education, serving parishes across Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana. From 2004-2011, John Paul was an instructor in Loyola’s Department of Theology, and in May 2013, John Paul began his current position in Campus Ministry.
A native of South Bend, Indiana, John Paul enjoys gardening and has even made his own wine and sausage from family recipes. He enjoys listening to classical music and jazz, exploring Chicago’s ethnic neighborhoods, and all things New Orleans. Faith, family, and food are his passions.
