For the Fall 2020 semester, Labre will not be meeting in person. However, please join us weekly for our virtual, socially distanced version of Labre! We will dive deep into Labre values, explore socially distant service opportunities, take time for reflection, and more.
For more information on how Labre works in-person, please click through below. Please keep our friends on the streets in your thoughts and prayers, as they are a particularly vulnerable population to many of the health concerns facing our community.
Students form relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness in downtown Chicago, providing both food and friendship. Labre's main focus is solidarity, rather than charity, focusing on the relationships created rather than on the act of providing food itself. By building relationships with our friends on the streets, Loyola students choose to stand in solidarity with God's people and affirm the human dignity of all.
The Labre Ministry is a student-led homeless outreach ministry. Labre Ministries began at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland in 2002. It has since expanded to several universities and high schools in the United States. In 2007, alumni of St. Ignatius High school who were then Loyola students began Labre Ministry at WTC.
Labre Ministry is sponsored by Campus Ministry and led by a team of Labre student leaders. Learn more about our student leaders through our Facebook page.
We gather at 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays in the All Saints Chapel on the 3rd floor of the Terry Student Center. We begin with prayer, followed by visiting the homeless on the streets. We then return to All Saints Chapel and spend time reflecting on the human dignity of those whom we have encountered.

Labre accepts food donations all year. Labre typically prepares meals for 40 people each Thursday. If your student organization, fraternity, or class would like to donate food, please see the following guidelines.
*We also welcome leftover food from Loyola events.*
Acceptable Food Donations:
- Pasta dishes
- Thick soups (chili, stew)
- Rice and beans
- Fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges)
- Granola bars
- Peanut butter
The men and women especially appreciate pasta dishes and soups.
We ask that the food you donate be packaged in large aluminum trays with a lid or plastic freezer bags so that we can freeze if necessary. Labre leaders will thaw and package the food into individual containers for the people on the street the night we use the food.
If you would like to donate or help prepare food, please contact Grace Girardot at email@example.com.
