Majors and Minors Outside CAS

To pursue any major listed below (instead of a major within the College of Arts and Sciences), a CAS student must apply for internal transfer from CAS to the appropriate school within Loyola (business, communication, continuing and professional studies, education, nursing, or social work).

Internal Transfer
Current Loyola students need a 2.000 minimum cumulative GPA to be considered for internal transfer admission to the College of Arts and Sciences, the Institute of Environmental Sustainability, the Quinlan School of Business, or the School of Communication; a 2.500 cumulative GPA to be considered for internal transfer admission to the School of Education, the School of Social Work, or the Health Systems Management program within the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing; and a 2.250 cumulative GAP to be considered for internal transfer admission to the Exercise Science program within the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing. Students who wish to internally transfer to any undergraduate school within the university must submit an Internal Transfer Application to the school into which they wish to transfer.

Multiple Bachelor's Degrees (Multiple-Degree-Seeking Students)
Students wishing to pursue multiple undergraduate degrees (such as a BBA from the Quinlan School of Business and a BS or BA from the College of Arts and Sciences, or a BSEd from the School of Education and a BA and a BS from the College of Arts and Sciences) are multiple-degree-seeking students. Students should contact all appropriate undergraduate dean's offices and should consult with academic advisors in both schools regarding requirements. They must complete the requirements for both majors/schools, the university Core Curriculum, and any electives necessary to reach 120 credit hours. To apply for status as a multiple-degree student, submit a Multiple-Degree Application to the dean's office of the school you wish to add to your current school.

Secondary Education Licensure
Students pursuing licensure for secondary-school teaching are "multiple-degree-seeking" students: They are enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, where they complete a major in English, French, history, Italian, Latin, mathematics, political science, psychology, or Spanish; and they are also enrolled in the School of Education where they complete the major in Secondary Education. Students who pursue a Secondary Education major will earn both a BA or BS degree in their field within the College of Arts and Sciences and a BSEd degree in secondary education within the School of Education. Students pursuing licensure to teach biology, chemistry, or physics are "dual-degree-seeking" students: They complete a fifth year to earn both A BA or BS degree in the major within the College of Arts and Sciences and an MEd (Master of Education) degree in Secondary Education. For more information, visit the School of Education.
