2022 Commencement

Academic Regalia

Regalia ordering is now open. Please visit the Jostens website to place your order by Friday, February 18. Regalia is required to participate in Commencement.

If you do not place your regalia order by February 18, you can purchase regalia at the Lake Shore Campus, Water Tower Campus or Health Sciences Campus Grad Fairs or visit the Lake Shore Campus or Water Tower Campus bookstores after April 13. Please visit the Grad Fair page to learn more about Grad Fair. 

NOTE: The following pre-order regalia deadlines are for the School of Law and Stritch School of Medicine only:

  • Friday, March 25 : Deadline for Stritch students to pre-order their regalia
  • Thursday, March 31 : Deadline for Law students to pre-order their regalia

All regalia pieces are kept by the graduate; no returns are necessary. Doctoral students have the opportunity to purchase fine quality regalia. Fine quality regalia is normally purchased by those planning to stay in academia. To purchase fine quality regalia, please visit the Jostens website and scroll using the right-hand arrow until you see fine quality regalia. Please note: fine quality regalia is not required for Commencement. For standard quality regalia, please select graduation caps & gowns from the Jostens home page. 

 

Laudatory Status

Laudatory Status (Bachelor's Degree only)

Bachelor’s degree graduates who have completed a degree with academic distinction are identified by the burgundy and gold honor cords worn around the neck. Your Dean's Office will contact you in the coming weeks about how to receive your honor cords. 

A degree may be awarded:

  • Cum Laude, with praise, representing an overall scholastic achievement of at least 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.
  • Magna Cum Laude, with great praise, for a scholastic average of at least 3.7.
  • Summa Cum Laude, with highest praise, representing an overall scholastic average of at least 3.9.
