Institute of Pastoral Studies

The Commencement ceremony for the Institute of Pastoral Studies will begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Gentile Arena on Loyola's Lake Shore Campus. Tickets are not required for the ceremony.

  • Grad apparel (gowns, tassels, and hoods) can be purchased at the Universities Bookstores and Grad Fair at either campus. Please check the Commencement website for up-to-date information.  
  • Plan to arrive no later than 1:45 p.m. to have enough time on Tuesday, May 8, at the Lake Shore Campus.
  • Check in at the Den to get your seating card in the Damen Student Center (Number 12 on the map).
  • Do NOT lose your seating card!
  • Masters candidates must be in their assigned seats in the Gentile Arena by 2:45 p.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes. Late arrivals may not be permitted.
  • Tassels should be worn on the left side at Commencement and for picture taking. The tassel color is red for all IPS graduates. Graduates will hood themselves during the ceremony when the president instructs students to don their hoods. Example instructions for hooding can be found here.
  • Purses and other items should be given to family members to hold during the ceremony, since there will be no area in which they can be stored nor will you return to the same seat after crossing the stage.

  • NO strollers are allowed in the Gentile Arena. Please leave them in your car. If you arrive with them, you will be asked to leave them outside the facility.
  • Absolutely no balloons or flags will be allowed into the arena.
