LUC Dream Act
Loyola Chicago Dreams
Last week, the Loyola University Chicago community came out to show outstanding support for the Dream Act by participating in letter signings at various volunteer tabling sites at all three campuses. Students, Faculty and Staff signed pre-printed letters which contained real stories of current Dreamer students who may become affected by the recent decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA). Over the course of three days the campaign turned out to be incredibly successful:
2,454 letter signers (~90% students)
7,362 total letters signed
4,527 from Illinois + 2,835 from other states
The letters will go to:
- 84 different U.S. Senators
- 297 different U.S. Representatives
- From 43 different states & territories
Management of 8 tables at 5 different locations, thanks to:
- 102 student volunteers, and
- 52 staff/faculty volunteers
The letters were written to local congress and state senators from all 50 states and volunteers spent an entire Saturday afternoon organizing the letters by state and representative for hand delivery in Washington D.C. this week.
