North Lake Shore Earth Day Hiatus

Loyola Neighborhood News: Lake Shore Campus - V3, I7

Dear friends and supporters of North Lake Shore Earth Day (NLSED). This event has been such a wonderful and collaborative experience for the last four years as a result of the support of our elected officials, nonprofit community organizations and neighborhood advocates in Andersonville, Edgewater, Rogers Park, Ravenswood and Lincoln Square.

At the outset of planning for 2012, we decided to breathe new life into the event by changing the format.  Earth Night: Planet Art School 2.0 carried forward the Earth Day tradition by creating an opportunity to explore our relationship to the Earth through a multi-layered evening of art making, live music and multimedia presentations. It was to be held off-campus at the Broadway Armory.

We have heard and responded to the community’s desire to take a year off and re-solidify the buy-in, support and participation and re-ignite the collaborative experience of which it began. Although I am personally disappointed to not host NLSED in some form this year, I am encouraged by the opportunity to rebuild the event and attract a dedicated committee to make it a reality.  In June, I intend to reconvene any and everyone who has interest in helping to plan for an event in 2013.  This event cannot happen without passionate local partners. If you are interested, please contact me at 773-508-7450 or srober6@luc.edu

In the meantime, please support the Annual Spring Clean Up scheduled for Saturday, April 21. There are several projects happening locally and many ways to get involved.  For more information, please contact your individual ward office for projects and details. Please click this link to view the current initiatives .

Warm regards,
