RogerEdge District Sees Growth in 2017 with over 10 new Businesses!

 

Since early 2017, the RogersEdge District has seen a staggering growth in new businesses and event programming. From ribbon cuttings, to outdoor movie screenings, to quarterly pedestrian studies, there is no slowing down what's to come in 2018. Check out all of the new and upcoming businesses that have since began construction or opened:

2x10 Nails – 1121 W Devon Ave

Nestled on the corner of Devon & Magnolia, 2x10 nails offers manicures, pedicures, and other special spa services. Loyola students, faculty and staff can receive discounts on certain days of the week!

Auntie Joy’s Jamaican Kitchen – 1217 W Devon

RogersEdge Ramblers can enjoy Jamaican food that goes beyond the traditional Jerk Chicken dishes that we are all accustomed to at this family-owned restaurant called Aunty Joy's. Located at 1217 W Devon Ave, customers can enjoy various spicy dishes, from Curried Goat to delectable all-Spice rubbed Chicken and beef patties, with a selection of sides like rice and beans, cabbage and plantains.

Bulldog Alehouse – 6606 N Sheridan Rd

Bulldog Ale House, an American-style, Illinois-based sports bar chain opened up a location in Rogers Park in the same plaza as Chipotle and bopNgrill and offers daily specials on food and drinks.

Caffe Arrivedolce – 6451 N Sheridan Rd

Owner Jill Gross got her start as a business owner six years ago, opening an independent coffee house in downtown Highland Park. Jill has brought to Rogers Park her delicious espresso drinks, freshly roasted coffee, homemade baked goods, locally sourced soups, gelato and other specialty products.

Chitown Magpie – 6443 N Sheridan Rd

ChiTown Magpie offers a charming selection of Chicago themed gift items, cards, jewelry and locally created art. A fun and friendly shop in Rogers Park.

Chicago Mosaic School– 1101 W Granville

For the last 12 years, CMS is the first and only school in North America dedicated to the academic discipline and study of Mosaic Fine Art. CMS host artists and instructors worldwide in the largest mosaic arts facility in the USA. The school has 8000 square feet of naturally lit space that houses classrooms, artist studios, library, gallery, offices, a mosaic supply store (Tiny Pieces Mosaic Supply) and Chicago Rock and Mineral.

Concorde on Sheridan (Mixed Income Housing + Target)

Construction has begun for the Concord at Sheridan, the seven story building that will contain a 30,000 square foot Target store, apartments and parking.

The specialty Target will sell items that cater to the needs of the surrounding community, like grocery items, household items, clothing and more. Above the Target, at least 65 units in the apartment complex will be leased to CHA tenants while the remaining units will be leased at market value to the public. Construction has already begun and a ribbon cutting ceremony took place last month.

Hampton Inn Retail Space - Argo Tea, Onward & Raising Cane 

The Hampton Inn Chicago North-Loyola Station will fill their vacant retail spaces with three new businesses expected to complete construction this spring of 2018! The RogersEdge Business District will welcome Argo Tea, Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and local restaurant called Onward right across the street from Loyola's Lake Shore Campus!

Argo Tea is no stranger to Loyola's Water Tower Campus community, as one of their locations currently reside right next to the Lewis Towers on Rush and Wabash. Known for their impressive selection of teas, coffees, bubble teas, baked goods and more, they have established themselves as the go-to tea brewery in Chicago.

Onward will focus on a more casual, fine-dining experience for customers and will also incorporate a sports bar area where people can watch local Chicago and Loyola sporting events and students will be able to use their student IDs and use their Rambler Bucks.

With other locations already existing in Chicago, Raising Cane's menu focuses on crispy chicken fingers, sandwiches, crinkle cut fries, cole slaw and their signature "Cane's Sauce". Customers can order various combination meals to cater to their level of hunger. The company prides itself on taking part in various community engagement activities as well as supporting local student athletic programs.

The third eatery that is expected to open beneath the Hampton Inn, called Onward, is one that will be owned by Loyola Alum Mike Olszewski (BA '86) and also well known as the co-owner of Michelen Award winning restaurant, Grace.

Gallery 1070 - 1070 W Granville

An art gallery opened by Edgewater Artists in Motion on Granville, is part of their latest initiative "to keep bringing the Edgewater community together ​through the arts, while helping the local economy." The Gallery will include two spaces: one dedicated to group exhibits, solo shows, fundraisers, and other special arts events (public and private); the other to be used for art workshops and private parties.

Gordo’s Ice Cream– 1120 W Granville

Next to Flaco’s Taco’s on 1120 W. Granville, Gordo's Homemade Ice Cream Bars is the dessert counterpart to the popular taco chain. Gordo's offers indulgent frozen treats from ice cream bar base of flavors including coffee, dulce de leche, mango and cantaloupe, or classics like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, Oreo, mint chip and butter pecan.

I Dream of Falafel – 6558 N Sheridan Rd

Better known by its acronym, IDOF, I Dream of Falafel offers up authentic Mediterranean cuisine that’s not only good for you, but delicious too! Falafel may possibly be the world’s first fast food. With over 4000 years of rich history, IDOF celebrates and honors its heritage by using time-tested recipes.

Tekkeez – 6204 N Broadway

Owned and operated by a Loyola University Chicago Alum, Tekkeez specializes in professional electronics repair. From phones to laptops, you can stop by to fix your gadget or pick up accessories items and more!
