Why you should support the Community Action Scholarship
We are now planning for the 2016-17 year, in which a new Loyola student may apply for this scholarship. The 2016 beneficiary of this scholarship will have a history of community sustainability efforts and continue to carry out the mission of both Community Relations and the Institute of Environmental Sustainability, by designing and implementing a community-based project that improves the environmental, economic, and/or social sustainability of Rogers Park and/or Edgewater neighborhood. The recipient will then implement an original project that will directly benefit our neighborhood, demonstrating a commitment to leadership, volunteering, and service projects aimed at community development. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, are high school graduates of Nicholas Senn or Roger C. Sullivan High School or another Chicago public high school, are native to Rogers Park and Edgewater, and/or have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
Loyola University Chicago is committed to the Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods that surround the University's Lake Shore Campus. The Community Action Scholarship Initiative honors of this commitment and the positive relationships between the University and its community partners.
We are asking for your support to sustain this initiative, so that we might continue to strengthen the bond between Loyola students and the neighborhoods surrounding campus, providing our young leaders with opportunities to connect with stakeholders on a range of social, environment, and economic issues-areas in our shared community.
If sufficient funds are raised, an endowed scholarship may be created to award more scholarships in the future. Your generous support will encourage and enable our students to make a difference in the Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods. Thank you for helping make the Community Action Scholarship a reality. Your incredible generosity will foster new partnerships, projects, and shared experiences in the years to come.
Sincerely,
Summur Roberts & Mary Miro
