Preparing for Online Learning and Academic Experience Webinar

August 5, 2020

Dear Students,

We are thrilled that more than 500 students and parents have already signed up for our Academic Experience webinar this Sunday, August 9, at 6 p.m. Central Time. The webinar will cover how Loyola has prepared for Fall 2020 classes, our commitment to quality online learning, our student support services, and how our classes continue to reflect the Ignatian way of teaching. If you haven’t already, register now and submit your questions in advance.

Preparing for online learning

In the Academic Experience webinar, we will discuss how learning online is different than in-classroom learning. For example, being a successful online student requires self-motivation, time management, and an openness to seek help when needed. You have honed these skills through your in-person classes, but they are even more important for online learning.

As the semester approaches, we will roll out additional student resources as part of our commitment to helping all our students succeed. To name a few, we are creating a one-stop listing of our many academic and student resources, including the Writing Center, Tutoring Center, Student Academic Services, Information Technology Services, and Wellness Center, and we will soon announce a series of webinars related to academic success. We are launching a new advising and student success platform called Navigate. You will also receive an invitation to a Sakai site in which you can get comfortable in the online class environment and practice key actions—like submitting an assignment—before you begin your actual classes.

And as always, your academic advisors are a great resource for you throughout your academic career.

COVID-19 training reminder

This past Monday, you should have received an email from covid-training@LUC.edu with your link to a required COVID-19 training module through Get Inclusive. All students, along with faculty and staff, are required to complete this training by Friday, August 21.

Reach out with any questions to COVID-19support@LUC.edu and continue to check our Return to Campus website, which is being updated with University plans and resources as they evolve.

Together, we will continue to achieve the promise of a Loyola education: a transformative experience grounded in the Jesuit values.

Together in Loyola,

Director, Office of Institutional Effectiveness
