Fall Semester Building Access

August 20, 2020

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we begin the fall semester, we want to share some important information about building access. Please familiarize yourself with our Return to Campus website to learn more about Loyola University Chicago’s Required Personal Safety Practices and new workplace guidelines, which we’ve implemented to protect the health and safety of our entire community. Anyone accessing campus for any reason should make sure they complete our Symptom Checker before arriving on campus each day. All faculty and staff are also required to complete their COVID-19 Prevention and Awareness Training, which was issued earlier this month from HR-Training@LUC.edu. The deadline is this Friday, August 21. If you did not receive an email inviting you to complete the training, please contact HR-Training@LUC.edu and a link will be provided. Failure to complete the module before the August 21 deadline may result in having your campus access restricted or your UVID suspended.

Any faculty or staff member who has traveled to or will be arriving from a state that is currently on the City of Chicago’s Emergency Travel Order must quarantine for 14 days before coming to campus. (You can find the current list of affected states here.) For those who drive, normal parking operations will resume for the fall semester. Please visit the Campus Transportation website for more details.

Open Buildings
Listed below are the campus buildings that will be open for general use this semester.

Lakeshore Campus

  • Damen Student Center
  • Halas Rec Center—students only
  • Loyola Information Commons—faculty, staff, and students only
  • Sullivan Center
  • Wellness Center in Granada

Water Tower Campus

  • Terry Student Center (including the Wellness Center)
  • Lewis Library in Corboy Law Center

Health Sciences Campus

  • Cuneo Center
  • Information Commons and Quiet Study

Any building not listed above will be closed. Please visit the Return to Campus website for more information about building hours, restrictions, and Required Personal Safety Practices.

Restricted Buildings
To de-densify our campuses this fall, it will be necessary for us to keep many of our facilities closed, except for authorized use. For those buildings that will be closed to the general public, authorized access has been granted through individual departments’ Return to Campus plans. If you have been approved to access a restricted office or building, your Loyola ID will be activated. Students attending classes in restricted buildings will be granted access via their Loyola ID, as well. More information will be provided to department leadership about the building services available in a restricted building.

Periodic Access to Restricted Buildings
We recognize that many faculty and staff members may need to visit their office from time to time in order to pick up materials, collect mail, make copies, or use a scanner. We will provide periodic access to restricted buildings on an established schedule so that Campus Safety may staff and/or monitor buildings with video surveillance. Please note: This access is only intended for short visits. Consult the schedule below for dates on which access will be available to specific buildings. Dates for access in the months of October and November will be communicated at a later date.
