Positive COVID-19 Case at Loyola

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
The safety, health, and well-being of the entire Loyola University Chicago community remains our top priority, and we continue to follow guidance issued by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure proper protocols are in place following a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 in our community. Under interim guidance issued by the CDPH, each time a positive COVID-19 case on campus is reported to the University, we will aim to inform all students, faculty, and staff within 24 hours.
On Sunday, September 6, a student tested positive for COVID-19. This student was recently on the Lake Shore Campus. Any additional cleaning protocols have been initiated. Through contact tracing, individuals who were exposed to this student have been notified separately. An exposure is defined as an individual who has had close contact (within six feet) with someone with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 for greater than 15 minutes. Those who may have had brief contact with an infected individual are not considered at great risk.
Any positive COVID-19 cases that result from Loyola-provided testing are reflected on our COVID-19 Testing Dashboard. We are seeking guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on whether or not our dashboard updates are sufficient moving forward in place of email updates. Each new positive case will be reflected on the dashboard within 24 hours, so please continue to monitor the web page for the most up-to-date number of cases within our community.
Students, faculty, and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 at non-Loyola testing sites are still required to report their case to the University as soon as possible. If you have tested positive for the virus, please contact us at COVID-19report@LUC.edu or by calling 773-508-7707. All COVID-19-related questions or feedback should continue to be sent to COVID-19support@LUC.edu, not the new case reporting email address.
Students, faculty, and staff only need to report positive cases within the last 14 days. For additional details, please visit our Reporting Protocol page.
It is the University’s responsibility to respect and maintain the privacy and anonymity of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 or who may be part of any contact tracing investigation. In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the University—along with public health authorities—is not allowed to share the identification of any these individuals, nor will we provide any information that may compromise confidentiality.
We strongly recommend students, faculty, and staff continue to use our new Symptom Checker within the Loyola mobile application to promote your own health and safety and to improve awareness of the symptoms of COVID-19. If you have not tested positive for COVID-19 but are experiencing COVID-19-related symptoms, please remain at home and reach out to the following for guidance and care:
