Update on Spring 2022 Study Abroad
September 21, 2021
I would like to offer some updates on Loyola’s global centers, study abroad programs, and other international activities as we continue to monitor health conditions and protocols in the regions where we work with our international partners.
John Felice Rome Center
We are pleased to announce that travel to our campus in Rome will continue in the spring 2022 semester. With 84 students currently enrolled in the John Felice Rome Center (JFRC) this fall, the JFRC expects to remain open at fuller capacity in the spring. Our campus in Rome was founded in 1962, so 2022 marks a special year in which we will celebrate our 60th anniversary. Generations of students have benefited from study abroad in Italy, and we are very happy that in this anniversary year faculty and staff in Rome will be able to welcome students and continue to offer this transformational experience that is so much a part of Loyola’s tradition in meaningful global engagement. To apply for study abroad in Rome, please contact rome@LUC.edu or visit LUC.edu/rome.
Loyola Vietnam Center
Loyola remains committed to maintaining study abroad at the Loyola Vietnam Center (LVC) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. However, due to the continuing spread of COVID-19 and low rates of vaccination in Vietnam, all programing and operations at the LVC will remain suspended in the spring 2022 semester and until further notice. Our concern rests with the safety of Loyola and visiting students, with staff and faculty members of the LVC, as well as with our Vietnamese partners; we maintain hope that we will be able to continue offering academic programs in Vietnam when health conditions permit. Students who planned to study abroad in Vietnam in the spring 2022 semester can contact vietnam@LUC.edu for more information.
Study Abroad for J-Term, Spring 2022, Summer 2022
The application portal to study abroad in the J–Term, spring semester, and summer sessions of 2022 is open. Students are welcome to apply for participation in faculty-led programs and other study abroad experiences in partner and third-party programs. A “go/no go” date has been set as October 1, 2021 for J–Term and spring programs. Each program will continue to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the health and safety measures in the destination countries appropriately protect the students and faculty member participants of these programs. For more information on approved programs and to apply for study abroad this winter or spring, please visit abroad.LUC.edu. A “go/no go” date for summer programs and courses abroad has been set for March 1, 2022.
For all study abroad activity during J–Term, spring break, the spring semester, and summer session in 2022, the Office of Study Abroad will continue to monitor all guidance and travel advisories published by the U.S. Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
