Update on 2021 Commencement
November 2, 2020
Dear Loyola Community,
Our students have demonstrated tremendous strength and resilience during our most unusual fall semester. In addition to classes, many students have engaged in rewarding internships, service projects, and discussion groups that have expanded their networks and experiences.
This rings especially true for the students in our Class of 2021. These students certainly did not imagine experiencing their final semesters at Loyola University Chicago in a world of virtual classrooms. Students had to connect with friends at a distance and face other unforeseen opportunities and challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We have announced plans to welcome more of our students back to campus this spring. However, in-person gatherings at our campuses are restricted under state and city guidelines for the foreseeable future. Thus, to allow students and families adequate time for planning, we are announcing a Virtual Commencement Week for the Class of 2021.
All of us would have preferred a more traditional in-person celebration for our students. We share a collective sense of disappointment, but we still plan to mark the achievement of our graduates in wonderful and unique ways. Commencement is a monumental event not only for our graduating students, but for our entire Rambler community, and this year is no different. We will celebrate Commencement together as a University and within individual schools.
Our Virtual Commencement Week will take place from Monday, May 10 to Saturday, May 15. A tentative schedule of ceremony dates is listed at LUC.edu/commencement and below:
