BAHAR Lab

Welcome to the Biocultural Anthropology and Health Action Research (BAHAR) Lab!

In the BAHAR Lab, we use interdisciplinary and action-oriented inquiry to understand how environmental, cultural, and biological factors shape human health—particularly among marginalized communities in the Global South.

The BAHAR Lab is led by Dr. Paula Skye Tallman an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Farrell Endowed Professor of Women and Leadership in the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership.

In her teaching and research, Dr. Tallman empowers students through service-learning and scientific investigations which address issues such as water insecurity, gender and environmental health. She has won multiple university-wide awards acknowledging her collaborative and justice-focused approach, which inspires students to think critically and act for the common good.

In the BAHAR Lab students can gain skills in research, writing, laboratory analyses, and international fieldwork. Contact Dr. Tallman (ptallman@luc.edu) or check out the “Research” tab to learn more.
