Professional Development and Instructional Coaching
in K-12 Science and Mathematics

Loyola CSME’s program of professional learning supports high-quality teaching and learning in K-12 science and mathematics. From our 10+ years of experience partnering with schools, networks, and districts, we have developed a program of facilitated learning for teachers, administrators, and staff that:

  • focuses on established principles of effective STEM instruction
  • aligns with current standards and research-based curricula
  • is ongoing, sustainable, and closely connects to classroom instruction
  • is responsive to the context and goals of your local school/district
  • supports strategies for remote/hybrid learning during the current global health crisis

We facilitate professional learning through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and classroom-based instructional coaching, both of which can be provided either on-site or online in 2020-21.

PLCs. Teachers and leaders collaborate with each other and with Loyola CSME coaches in quarterly workshops to advance their practice in K-12 science and math instruction. Workshops focus on research-based frameworks for teaching and learning in science/math, alignment of instruction with current standards, and implementation of high-quality curricular programs.

Instructional Coaching. Coaching visits involve classroom observation and teacher-coach conferences focused on goal setting, reflection, and addressing problems of practice. Visits can be conducted with teachers individually or in small collaborative teams. A coaching visit involves one coach engaging in a school for a full day, with the schedule arranged in collaboration with the school/district.

All projects include an evaluation component to provide formative feedback data related to school/district goals and outcomes.
