Website Administrator and Developer Position

The Gerard Manley Hopkins website team seeks a talented graduate or advanced undergraduate student to act as site administrator. The person in this role will promote the site, roll out and maintain a social media plan (Facebook, Twitter) that facilitates dialogue around Hopkins’ poetry, update site content as needed, respond to questions from site users and implement user feedback, and maintain both the front and backend of the WordPress installation. This person will also be a point person for the upcoming launch and will develop documentation for future site administrators. This is a great opportunity for a person interested in poetry and its reception in the digital age. 

Details:

Role: Website Administrator and Designer

Hours: 6-8 hours/week

Duration: AY 2018-2019, with possibility of renewal

Pay: $12/hour 

Tasks include:

  • Develop and maintain social media plan (Twitter, Facebook)
  • Site testing and proofingDesign and perform UX test and implement necessary changes
  • Update WordPress backend according to best practices
  • Add additional written content
  • Digitize and add audio content (including working with Northwestern’s collection)
  • Site promotion and outreach with other Hopkins scholars
  • Update site as needed with Hopkins-related publications and content (candidate must stay current in Hopkins research)
  • Updating/revising basic site design as needed
  • Act as point person on the site for visitors to contact with questions/suggestions
  • Perform WordPress/plugin updates as needed (site admin)
  • Act as point person for Hopkins launch (Tuesday, Sept. 11, presentation and panel talk, hosted by CTSDH)
  • Develop WordPress and content documentation for future site administrators

Required Skills:

  • WordPress/HTML/CSS (must be comfortable with basics and willing to develop further skills as needed)
  • Demonstrated interest in poetry or public digital humanities
  • Works well independently, comfortable troubleshooting
  • Comfortable contributing design ideas and feedback, and conducting outreach to scholars
  • Familiarity with website design and principles of UX
