Jessica Gondek, M.F.A.

About

Ms. Jessica Gondek is an artist/teacher living in the Chicago area. Ms. Gondek received her M.F.A. from Washington University in St. Louis in 1992, and her B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1990.

Ms. Gondek began her teaching career in 1992. She joined the faculty at Loyola University Chicago in 1996 as an Assistant Professor when it was the Department of Fine Arts. She currently teaches Drawing and Painting for the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. Ms. Gondek received her tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor in 2002. She has taught previously at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania, and Southwest Texas State University San Marcos, Texas.

Ms. Gondek has received a number of prestigious awards and residencies recognizing her creative work over the years. Notable is a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Artist Grant in 2002, a Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts Grant in 1999, and a Mid-America Arts Alliance National Endowment for the Arts Grant in 1994. Ms. Gondek has been recognized with a number of international artist residency awards. In 2008, she had a residency at the Can Serrat International Art Center in Spain. Ms. Gondek has had several artist residencies at the Fran Masereel Center in Kasterlee, Belgium between 2000-2006 and her selection is an honor and external endorsement of her graphic work. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Cite International des Arts in Paris, and the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico.

Ms. Gondek has exhibited widely and has her work represented in many public collections. Ms. Gondek has had solo exhibitions of her work at the Butler Institute of American Art Beecher Center in 2002, and  the Abdijhoeve Ten Bogaerde Cultural Art Center in Belgium in 2006, and the Northern Illinois University Art Museum in 2009. Her work has been selected for numerous international and national juried exhibitions. In the past two years, her work has been included in juried venues in no less than twelve states spanning east, central, and west from Fort Myers Florida, to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Hilo, Hawaii.
