About

Lauren Warnecke is a freelance writer, editor and educator, focused on dance and cultural criticism. Lauren is the dance critic for the Chicago Tribune, editor of See Chicago Dance, and founder/editor of Art Intercepts, with bylines in Chicago Magazine, Milwaukee Magazine, St. Louis Magazine and Dance Media publications, among others.

In 2015, Lauren completed a five-week residency program in Dublin, Ireland to better understand aesthetic competence in western dance forms across cultures. She has presented her work at the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS), the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO), and the Midwest Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium (MSEPS). From 2017-18, Lauren was selected to participate in a low-res dance writing lab through the National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron. She has served as a writer in residence for the Bates Dance Festival and the JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience, where she facilitated a dance writing intensive for students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Lauren has numerous speaking credits and is sought as a moderator, panelist, and lecturer with universities, dance companies and performance venues throughout the Chicagoland area.

Holding degrees in dance and kinesiology, Lauren is an instructor of dance kinesiology, dance history and exercise physiology at Loyola University Chicago. Headshot by Todd Rosenberg.
