Originally from Birmingham, AL, James Thomas earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his Masters of Science in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University in Bloomington. While in graduate school, James served as the graduate assistant of Leadership Development in the Division of Residential Program and Services. In this position he supervised a late night programming space; advised within RHA; and instructed an emerging leaders course. Upon moving to Chicago, James served as a residence hall director at Illinois Institute of Technology for two year, where provided support to a residential housing complex and staff, advised RHA, and developed a learning community. His last position before joining this SDMA & Loyola family was at DePaul University as the Program Coordinator for Campus Activities. In this position, James advised the university programming board; oversaw homecoming week and its committees; and worked with Big Pink Volleyball.
James is looking forward to bringing his passion of helping those society tells to not be heard, find their voice and inform their actions for change to the Loyola community. Along side fighting isms through reflection, deconstruction, and empowerment, James enjoys diving into the world of music through headphones (and office speakers); discussing the interesting art of reality show confessional hand choreography; and continuing his search for authentic Southern food in Chicago.
