Joe Saucedo is responsible for providing oversight and leadership of a department tasked with multicultural education, mentorship, and affirmation of students from historically underserved communities including first-generation, students of color, LGBTQIA, and undocumented students.
Since beginning work at Loyola University Chicago in 2011, Joe has developed expertise in cultural competency training and development for students, staff, and faculty. He has also led efforts to integrate a strengths-based approach to mentoring students and cultivating classroom and co-curricular spaces where marginalized students can be successful. Joe represents SDMA on Loyola’s institution-wide Dreamer Committee advising the University President on policies and practices necessary to effectively meet the needs of undocumented students. He facilitates the Share the Dream Undocumented Student Ally training designed to equip students, staff, and faculty with greater fluency around issues affecting undocumented immigrants and families.
Joe earned his BS in Marketing at Georgetown University and a MEd in Student Affairs from the University of California-Los Angeles. Prior to making the leap into higher education, Joe spent several years in multicultural advertising and serving clients ranging from tourism, mass transit, and Hispanic food products. He has over ten years of experience engaged in college access, admissions, residence life, and student retention.
