Judy Galarza

Class Standing: Senior

Majors: Special Education

Pronouns: She, Her, Hers

Judy currently serves as a LUCES Scholar for the 2017-18 academic year. From the northern suburbs of Chicago, Judy Galarza is currently completing her Bachelors in Education focusing in Special Education. Judy volunteers with the National Hispanic Institute, a non-profit organization that fosters future community leaders in the Latino community. It is an organization that targets high school students and is geared towards helping shine light on the assets of the Latino community rather than the deficits we always hear about.

Judy came to Loyola as a freshman and felt out of place and like she didn't belong. Attending her first LUCES event helped showcase a place of sisterhood and acceptance. She plans to help other women of color realize the strength and resilience they have within regardless of the lack of support they think they may have. When Judy's not focusing on school work or thinking of new ideas for her communities, you can find her enjoying quality time with family, watching Netflix, or eating a yummy meal.
