LUCES Mentorship Program
LUCES Mentorship Program (LMP): For Incoming First-Year & Transfer Womxn of Color Students
LMP connects 40 incoming first-year and transfer Womxn of Color (WOC) students with a WOC LUC faculty or professional staff to aid them in achieving academic, personal, and financial success at Loyola. Students will receive one-on-one mentorship from their mentor along with group mentoring sessions and a closed UNIV 101 course for LMP mentees. Students will also have the opportunity to attend social and educational events sponsored by LUCES and gain leadership experience through LUCES committees that will enhance individual growth. If you self-identify as a Womxn of Color and are a first-year or transfer LUC student, we encourage you to take part in this unique opportunity.
Your Experience as an LMP Mentee
- You will be matched with a current Loyola faculty or professional staff member. Your mentor will connect with you throughout your first academic year at Loyola. You will schedule monthly meetings with your mentor to achieve academic and personal goals you set for yourself at the beginning of each semester.
- Enroll in the UNIV 101 seminar course section for LMP Mentees. The UNIV 101 seminar class is required for LUC first-year and transfer students.
- Attend monthly events and workshops focused on leadership development, and cultural awareness designed specifically for LUCES members.
- Expand your leadership portfolio by serving on one of the LUCES Committees, which plan the WOC Retreat, WOC Journal, LUCES Takes Action Programming and End of Year Gala
- Be part of a community of Womxn of Color striving to build a sister ship, leadership, and scholarship.
- Optional for First-Year Mentees: For first-year WOC who are choosing to live on Loyola's campus there is an opportunity to select the Multicultural Learning Community (MCLC) as a part of your housing application. The MCLC serves as a residential community for mentees connected to SDMA and for those interested in engaging fellow peers in topics of social justice, social change, and identities.

Prospective Mentees: LMP staff will select 40 incoming Womxn of Color to participate in our program. The application priority deadline is Sunday, April 1st, 2018; the general deadline is May 1st, 2018; and the final deadline is June 1st, 2018. Applicants are prioritized on first-come first-basis. Prospective Mentors: LMP staff takes all interested WOC LUC faculty and staff as our number of mentees directly depends on how many mentors we can recruit. Staff and faculty interested in serving as an LMP Mentor should contact Hannah Goheen directly for additional information. The mentor recruitment process will be finalized by June 1st, 2018.
